“And I called Jay back and I said, ‘I think I’ve got a : It’s not, “It stays crunchy, even in milk” - it would be, “Stays crunchy, even in hydrochloric acid.” This stuff is going to shred children’s mouths all over America. “I tasted it, and … it tasted like it was going to shred my mouth, it was so crunchy,” Burns said in a 2004 interview with the Television Academy. Ward asked Burns to take a stab at it, but not before trying some of the cereal, which Ward had kept in a bag in his office. Ward had forgotten he had scheduled a meeting with some Chicago-based advertising executives working for Quaker Oats, who were looking to build a campaign around a new cereal. In 1962, Burns was working at Jay Ward Productions when he got a call from Ward, who was off on vacation.
The late Allan Burns is probably better known as the co-creator of such sitcoms as “My Mother the Car” and “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” but before that, he was a young writer and animator working for Jay Ward, the producer of such animated series as “Crusader Rabbit” and “The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show.” Giuseppina Grech as the flighty diva, Carlotta Guidicelli, and Paul Tabone, as her tenor, Ubaldo Piangi, not only sing superbly but delight with their comedic skills, while David Whitney and Andy Morton clearly revel in their roles as the unfortunate new managers of the opera company. And he also played a part in popularizing Cap’n Crunch for generations of cereal-chomping kids. With Herbert Lom, Heather Sears, Edward de Souza, Thorley Walters. With Lon Chaney, Mary Philbin, Norman Kerry, Arthur Edmund. With Paul Hickey, Terry Apsey, Elena Buda, Gerard Butler. The Phantom of the Opera: Directed by Terence Fisher. The Phantom of the Opera: Directed by Rupert Julian, Lon Chaney, Ernst Laemmle, Edward Sedgwick. In conclusion, not among the best of Hammer by a long shot and could have been better, but still manages to be pretty good.(NEXSTAR) – He won multiple Emmys. The Making of The Phantom of the Opera: Directed by Jamie Crichton. Herbert Lom is a great contrast as the Phantom, under heavy and effective make-up he is a sympathetic and tragic figure and it is quite a poignant performance, though not without a few scary moments. Regarding the acting, Michael Gough steals the show being chillingly vile as a true slimeball with no redeeming qualities of a character. Terrence Fisher's direction is technically accomplished and does evoke some suspense and atmosphere, though his story-telling has been better elsewhere. The close up of the eye is really quite chilling and enough to make one jump, while the grasping hand over the stage and the lowering of the gas lamp are indeed very suspenseful, Phantom's back-story is interesting and makes one empathise with him and the ending is incredibly moving. The Phantom of the Opera is a 1925 American silent horror film adaptation of Gaston Leroux 's 1910 novel Le Fantme de l'Opra, directed by Rupert Julian and starring Lon Chaney in the title role of the deformed Phantom who haunts the Paris Opera House, 1 causing murder and mayhem in an attempt to make the woman he loves a star. The story is less than perfect, but does offer some effective moments. It is beautifully and spine-chillingly scored, though James Bernard would have been an even better fit for composer. However, it is very lavishly made (one of the better looking early-60s Hammer films) with truly marvellous interiors of the opera house, rich vibrant colours and opulent costumes. Heather Sears also plays Christine too low-key and the script, while with some intelligent moments, does plod sometimes and has a little too much talk. The romance is rather saccharine, and the chemistry between the two 'heroes' a little bland. Sadly, the opera numbers, while musically good, are staged awkwardly and really do slow the film down. The Phantom of the Opera/IMDb and 145 million+ people have since seen it in 183 cities and over 70,000. It does have its problems, with too much time spent on the opera and the romance and not enough of the Phantom, which does undermine the tension, sense of dread and horror. The Phantom of the Opera, is ending in February 2023. As far as adaptations of The Phantom of the Opera goes(excluding the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical), this 1962 Hammer version is not as good as Lon Chaney's, which is the best version, but it's superior to the Claude Rains version(though I do prefer Rains over Herbert Lom).
